Volusion V5: Worth The Wait

Get your products in Google Base! "Google Product Search" to replace Froogle

Have you taken the time to upload your products into Google Base? If not, what are you waiting for? While http://www.google.com/products currently still points to Froogle, CNET reports that Google Product Search will soon replace Froogle.

Still not convinced? In a recent WebProNews video interview, Vanessa Fox of Google Webmaster Tools and Rand Fishkin, CEO of SEOmoz, briefly discuss Google Base (and much more):

Avoiding the Google Sandbox Effect

A Storeowners Guide to Beating the Google Sandbox Effect
Don’t put the ecart before the horse.

Launching a new online store takes a lot of work. Merchants spend hours sourcing products, taking pictures, finding a shopping cart solution, signing up with a merchant account and then populating their webstore with products and content. The next stop is marketing the new store. Online marketing begins with gaining high rankings in search engine result pages (SERPs). This is done by having loads of unique content and quality links to your store. Sadly, for new store owners this isn’t enough. New stores will find their ranking in Google stymied by the Sandbox Effect.

Google Adds "Links" Feature to Webmaster Tools

Google recently announced its newest feature to Webmaster Tools, a section called "Links." An alternative to the link: query operator, the tool provides a wealth of information to verified site owners regarding the links that Google knows about. In the new "Links" section, you can:

Google Sitemaps Made Easy by Hosted Carts

Creating and maintaining a xml or txt Google sitemap for your store can be a huge time drain. Sure it’s worth it. Adding one will ensure that Google will have a detailed road map to crawl your site and make sure all your product pages are indexed . This is hugely important for newly launched stores.

Two hosted cart solutions I use make it real easy to create and maintain a Google sitemap. Volusion and 3DCart automatically generate an asp page called (or something like) googlesitemap.asp. Its updated whenever you add a page or product to your store. You can then easily point Google to this page of regular downloading. Talk about easy. No more searching for third party tools or site to crawl your store in order to generate a site map.

Hosted Cart Customer Forums

A number of the top e-commerce hosted shopping cart solutions have customer forums where you can pop in and checkout what’s going on with the solution. These are invaluable tools when researching a move or opening to new store. By digging through these forums you can gauge the cart's customer service abilities, customer sentiment and even ask pre-sales questions. There’s nothing like getting honest feedback about a cart before opening a store.

Of course you can always visit our forum for up to date info on the major hosted shopping carts by visiting: eCartReviews Forums

Google Checkout. Viable payment method?

Google has launched its answer to Paypal.

When news of Google Checkout was announced many merchants jumped with joy. Just think; a payment method that doesn’t exploit the merchant! Google Checkout offers free processing (until December 31, 2007), $10 off coupons for first time customers, $50 AdWords coupon for merchants and robust anti-fraud tools. Google also promised seamless integration with the major hosted shopping cart solutions. To date, Volusion, 3DCart and MonsterCommerce offer Google Checkout integration for their stores.

Google Checkout promises to help merchants in three areas:
